Suspension Culture Bioreactors for Monoclonal Antibody (mAb) Production
Jan.15.2026
A biopharmaceutical company specializing in the R&D and production of anti-tumor monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) needed to establish a large-scale, highly stable upstream cultivation system. They selected our 2 × 100L, 2 × 500L, and 2 × 2500L suspension culture bioreactors, along with supporting upstream equipment, to cover the entire workflow from seed expansion to large-scale production.
Production Process
Seed Expansion: The 100L bioreactors are used for seed expansion. By precisely controlling temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO), they provide a highly active and homogeneous seed culture for subsequent stages.
Intermediate Scale-Up: The seed culture is transferred stepwise into 500L bioreactors for transition culture. The system's efficient agitation and aeration systems ensure a steady increase in cell density.
Large-Scale Production: The final large-scale suspension culture is performed in 2500L bioreactors. Utilizing the integrated online feeding system and Process Analytical Technology (PAT), the system enables precise online supplementation of nutrients and real-time monitoring/control of process parameters to maintain high cell viability.
Results
The complete system operates stably with excellent process performance:
Peak cell density reaches 8.5×10⁶ cells/mL;
mAb titer exceeds 5 g/L;
Batch-to-batch variation is less than 3%.
This system helps the enterprise achieve efficient and stable mass production of mAb drugs, effectively meeting the demands of clinical research and commercial supply.
